5The Holy Grail of Travel?
By D. Dubya
Edit: I've traveled with it and updated my review. Still 4.5/5 stars, only quibble is the zipper operationBefore I begin, Amazon has something screwy in the system. It says I'm writing this review for "Samsonite Luggage Dkx 2.0 Carry-On Wheeled Garment Bag, Black, 42 Inch", however this bag is carry-on sized. Not 42 inches. It's a mis-label that only shows up in some places.Pre-review #2: Amazon customer service helped me out of a very tight spot with this order. Without getting into details, I can honestly vouch for the good-natured, extremely efficient customer service staff and policies. The review: I first saw a carry-on sized wheeled garment bag while shopping at Men's Wearhouse. I know, I know. But regardless the merits or demerits for being there in the first place, it planted a seed. There is such a thing as a carry-on sized, wheeled garment bag.I did due diligence research and decided to order this particular bag for my upcoming trip. Having traveled with it, I can say for sure that it holds up and is smaller than most carry-ons. I could put this bag in the overhead and easily put my jacket on top of the bag in each plane I flew.Construction/Overall: The construction of the bag is rock solid. This is a hard shell case with soft sides-- more so than a traditional cloth carry on. The skeleton of the bag is very rigid. The bag will hold its shape and likely not expand too much. The bag differs from a traditional carry on in its rolling state because it essentially rests on its side while rolling, opposed to the vertically oriented traditional bag. The dimensions appear to be very similar to my traditional bag.As a roller: 2 Rollerblade wheels, very quiet, very sturdy. The bag stands upright on its own due to 2 rubber-like bumpers opposite the wheels. The telescopic handle is as sturdy as they come, and extends to a significant length. The handle is not too bulky, so slipping a smaller laptop bag or similar trip bag over the handle for rolling will not be a problem. There is a very sturdy padded handle on top of the bag, as well as another more tight handle on the bottom for easy overhead retrieval.Zipper Operation: The operation of the "pocket" zippers is hampered by the presentation cardboard (the one that describes the bag's features). Don't return or review the zippers until you remove those pesky plastic things. Once those were out, the zippers functioned as expected. The "clam shell" zippers start at the BOTTOM of the bag (in its rolling configuration) and zip upwards to the top. This is the default zipper orientation, although you could probably align them on one far side or the other. Going from "garment bag" to "rolling carry on" mode (closing the clam shell), re-zipping the bag is a bit more of a challenge than I expected due to the flexible zipper tracks on each side (the epaulets you can see in the picture). I need to lift the epaulet with one hand to free the zipper pull enough to re-zip the bag. Minor quibble. As A Garment Bag: This is a suitable garment bag, but it is compact. The dual-zippered "dust cover" that can remain closed when in garment bag mode is high quality, but a crunchy sounding material-- no quiet operation in the early hours with others still asleep, sad to say. There is an "extendable" panel that may allow for a mid-length dress, or a tall suit, but that folds up towards the main body of the bag prior to the clam shell closing. I can probably fit 2 suits comfortably, 3 with a bit of effort. Plenty for a 5 day work trip for sure. The "shoulder compartments" are more compact than I've seen on my previous full size garment bag. Large enough to fit a smaller women's shoe, but not enough for my size 10's. Likewise, the compartments at the bottom of the garment bag are not big enough to comfortably house a pair of men's shoes either. As you may see from pictures, the contents of the garment bag drape over the middle "Seam" of the clam shell. So if your suit fits from top to bottom, the side view will appear as such: |__-__|. The middle will bulge upward. This is a weakness of this particular design, and will result in somewhat weird drape if you were to put a suit on straight from a trip in the bag. The bag comes with a detachable hangar which clips onto a "D" ring on top of the bag, so the bag can be hung in a closet in "garment bag" mode. There are 2 sets of elastic straps: 1 in the main garment bag compartment (goes across the "chest", and 1 on the backside of the extension (the mid leg) for longer garments.Pockets: By my count: 1) Exterior flat storage compartment with a single zipper. Good for a file folder airline tickets, a single magazine, tablet, etc. 2) Exterior expandable compartment with a double zipper. Inside of this compartment is a webbed, zippered compartment, but no specific spots for pens, cell phone, etc. This is fine for laptops, sundries, etc. 3) Exterior ID card compartment (on the side with the expandable handle) 4 & 5) 2 small interior "shoulder" compartments, with webbing. 6) at the "foot" of the garment bag, a mid-size sundry compartment with clear plastic facing. Should keep most spills from reaching the clothing. 7) At the "foot" of the garment bag, a mid-size mesh compartment good for socks, underwear, t-shirts, etc. 8) a "not really a pocket" pocket, with Velcro closure, that allows access to the telescopic mechanics from the interior. You could, in a pinch, store socks or underwear without adding bulk to the bag. The sides of this compartment are zippered, however there are no zipper pulls. It's obviously not meant to be a regular method of access.I am excited that this type of bag exists, that it's this high quality, and look forward to putting many miles on it. I'll update my review if future events warrant it.

4Decent bag, once you get used to it.
By R. Myers
I bought this bag to replace a traditional garment bag that I've been using for quite a while. Got tired of having to carry it through airports. I've recently had a change in both work an personal life where I'm traveling more by Air and less by car than before. I've always liked a garment bag as folding shirts and pants is a pain in the butt. I researched several and decided to give this one a try for a few reasons. 1. Price: Some of these can get really expensive! I wasn't about to pay hundreds of dollars for a piece of luggage. 2: Needed to be carry-on. About 90 percent of the time, I'm checking a bag with tools and parts. I don't want to have to check two bags and pay the fees for both, so I wanted a carry-on bag that would handle a weeks' worth of clothes. Since it's mainly work clothes and a few "office casual" items. I don't need something for suits and ties and the like. 3: Needed wheels and a way to support a laptop bag. I've got a large travel laptop bag that also serves as my personal items bag when I travel. It weighs a ton, and I wanted to be sure any bag I bought would let me support the laptop bag on the handle as I wheel it through the airport. Given these criteria, here's my views on this bag.Pros:Generous size. I can put three pairs of pants and six shirts in this bag, no problem. it's got some pockets on the fold out garment support for small items.Wide wheels and a strong handle: Makes it easy to carry my laptop bag on top and wheel it around without tipping overStrength: It's built strong enough to check if I need or want to. Sometimes, on personal travel when I don't need my tools and giant laptop case, I'll check this bags and just keep a small tote for on the plane. Not often, but I wanted to be sure the bag could handle this. The Cons:The outside pockets are virtually useless. They are really more like slots for papers or folders and the like. I ended up clearing cables out of one section of my laptop bag and putting them in these outside pockets. I use the space in the laptop bag for hats, gloves and bathroom accessories.Center bar doesn't leave much room in the middle of the bag. This is what limits how many flat items you can put in the bag. The trick I've found is to put folded items like undies, socks, Tee shirts, jackets and the like in the bottom of the two open sides first. Then lay the flat shirts and pants on top so they have a more flat surface to lay on. Makes a better fold down the middle and keeps the wrinkles down. Unlike a traditional garment bag where you pack the inside stuff first, then put all the smaller stuff on the outside pockets, this one requires a little more planning beforehand.Top corner inside pockets could be bigger. There seems to be a lot of wasted space here. Wish these were bigger, or a different shape.Overall, I'm pretty happy with this bag. I wish there were more pockets on the outside for small items. If I could, I would probably have given it 3.5 stars Three seemed too harsh, as it's really a pretty nice bag at a good price point. Four may be generous as the functionless outside pockets are a real bummer. I've taken it on a couple trips so far, and it's performed pretty well. Overall, I'm pretty happy and I'm getting better at packing it so I went with the four star rating.

5Very good to travel!

This is luggage is really good! You can easily use it for 3 to 4 days trip. You do not need to check in this bag at all, it will fit inside the plane cabinets!
